With Logs, Stone and a few other materials you can build benches, lanterns, chests, pet habitats and some handy tools. Every item needs a schematic — bought or earned — and the fancier ones also need the Carpentry skill. Everything is made at a crafting table. Tick each schematic when you get it.

Crafting tables

  1. You can only craft at a table, and there are two:
    1. Practical Practice in Wisk. Nalin, who runs the shop, lets you use the table there for free.
    2. Your own Crafting Table in the garden shed: 550 Gold Petals from the Upgrades and Decorating brochure at Practical Practice. It saves you the walk into town.
  2. Use the table to see every schematic you know, pick one to check its ingredients and press Craft. The table counts materials in your inventory and your storage chests, so there’s no need to empty a chest first. The finished item goes straight to your inventory.
  3. You can browse your schematics anywhere from the crafting recipes button in the player menu, but you can only build them at a table.

Carpentry levels

  1. Each schematic has a Carpentry level from 1 to 4. Level 1 needs nothing; the rest need Carpentry skills from the tree:
Carpentry levelCarpentry skills needed

4All 3
  1. There are three Carpentry hexagons, one skill point each:
    1. One next to Potionwork Proficiency, which is open from the start.
    2. One next to Seed Gatherer, also a starting hexagon.
    3. The third is deeper in, between Song of the Sea, Light Bearer, Eye of the Wildcrafter and Farm Merchant.
  2. The first two are cheap — two points each counting the starting hexagon — and between them they unlock every schematic except the Fountain.
  3. Carpentry is only checked when you craft. You can buy a schematic before you have the skill and it waits in your list until you’re ready.

Where to get schematics

Nalin hands you the schematics booklet with the Stone Path and Garden Lantern.Nookrium · 22:05 · CC BY 3.0
  1. Sources:
    1. Nalin at Practical Practice sells most of them. On your first day Nalin gives you a brochure with two free schematics, the Stone Path and the Garden Lantern; from the next day on you can ask to see the rest.
    2. Gwen sells three stone schematics in Nocturne Forest — choose Open Schematics when you talk.
    3. The merfolk stall sells three at the Seaflower Festival. Ask the merchandise vendor to show you.
    4. Florian gives you the Carved Bench and the Garden Lantern (Brass) once you’ve handed in five species for “A Study in Fish” (see Fishing).
    5. The Garden Lantern (Snail) sits at the end of Amka’s walkway, behind the waterfall by the dorm. The walkway appears after the Summer class trip, when Amka invites you to try it. Walk over the schematic to pick it up.
    6. The Shears come from Professor Rohesia’s Continued Herbotany class on Summer 2.
    7. The habitats come from the Creatures Workshop and from Fairy Royalty (see Pet habitats below).

  1. A few items do more than decorate:
    1. The Chest adds storage, and brewing and crafting can use what’s inside it directly.
    2. The Wheatmill grinds Wild Wheat into Flour (see Cooking).
    3. The Beehive houses bees, which make Honey from nearby flowers.
    4. The Lantern is a hand lantern you can equip to light up dark places.
    5. The Shears let you shear sheep for Wool, and give you a chance of seeds whenever you pick wild plants — you don’t even need to have them equipped for that.

Crafting materials

Chant of the Woodcutters highlights the dead trees you can fell for Logs and Twigs.CozyGameSpace · 69:05 · CC BY 3.0
  1. Where to find each one:
    1. Logs and Twigs: play Chant of the Woodcutters next to dead trees. Each tree gives Logs plus a handful of Twigs (see Songs & spells).
    2. Stone: play Melody of Stones next to big rocks.
    3. Iron Bars and Candles: Hyla sells both at Newt’s Eye in Wisk, 15 each.
    4. Cut Grass: cut the grass in your garden with the Scythe (Kavita at the Wisk market, 65).
    5. Feathers: birds sometimes drop one when you scare them off.
    6. Wool: equip the Shears and use them on a sheep. There are sheep on Linden’s farm and in the meadow nearby, and their wool grows back.
    7. Honey Bees: catch them with the Bug Catcher (Kavita, 55). Wild bees buzz around the Rosewheat Fields and Marywild’s Manor.
    8. Moon Poppies: grow them from Moon Poppy Seeds, which Kavita sells in Spring and Summer.
    9. Seafloor Sand, Mermaid’s Thread, Grizzled Seaweed and Plaited Kelp: dive for them — swim to a patch of bubbles and interact. All four turn up in the ocean, except that the bubbles around Mel and Lusina’s Shell never give Seafloor Sand. Lakes only give Grizzled Seaweed and Plaited Kelp. Mel sells Seaweed for 25.
    10. Wild Thyme, Wild Mint, Thistle, Dread Sorrel, Witchfire, Feathered Shroom and Porcino: pick them in the wild. Thistles grow on Bellian Moor, Wild Mint near the Temple of Silence and Porcino in the Ochre Woods (see Foraging).

Pet habitats

  1. Habitats give creatures somewhere to live on your farm, and that’s the only place they can go. Once you’ve made friends with a creature, build its habitat and it moves in the next morning.
  2. Where the schematics come from:
    1. Briar Fox, Griffin and Woodland Dragon habitats: Chicory teaches all three at the Creatures Workshop, Summer 3, 8:00–11:00.
    2. Vested Pack Owl Habitat: during “Fairy Ring”, seal the other three dangerous rings with Song of Earth. Fairy Royalty appears when you seal the last one and gives you the schematic at the end of the conversation.

A toy for Theo

  1. In Winter, “Starry Night Gifting” asks you to bring Theo a present at the Starry Night Celebration. A toymaker sets up at the Wisk market and makes toys on the spot — no schematic or Carpentry needed. All five choices (Cards, Doll, Marbles, Paint Set and Sword) cost 2 Amber Dragon and 2 Basil.
