Chapter 18: Erdrick’s Helm, Zalen’s song and four new Secret Spots

Checklist

Erdrick’s island

1. Warp to Galenholm and go down to the little beach. Zalen is there, as he promised in Cantlin; talk to him about the Faeries and about Robbin’ ’Ood.
2. Then go to the Field of Flowers. A scene with Over-Seer starts on its own; she tells you about Erdrick’s father and sends you to Dream-Whisperer at the Shrine of Rain.
3. Warp to the Shrine of Rain and speak to Dream-Whisperer — no climbing needed. When you ask about a place tied to Erdrick, she takes you there herself: a small island west of Tantegel, where Erdrick first set foot in Alefgard.
4. After the scenes:
   1. Examine the helmet for Erdrick’s Helm. It protects against sleep, confusion, dazzle, paralysis and instant death, and strengthens your lightning spells and skills.
   2. Between Dream-Whisperer and the tomb, the grass by the wall hides a Two-Leaf Clover.
   3. Follow the path north to the end of the dock for a hidden Mini Medal.

5. Talk to Dream-Whisperer to return to the Shrine of Rain.

Zalen’s last verse

1. Warp to Rimuldar and find Zalen on the little island south-west of the item shop. A final scene closes his story, and you get a trophy/achievement for following it to the end.

The four new Secret Spots

1. South-east of the Roadside Inn: warp to the inn, leave by the south door, cross the bridge and go east to the far side of the barren land.
   1. The chest in the middle: a Mirror Shield.
   2. The tree to the south-west hides a Duplic Hat. Its defence is low, but it lets you cast two spells in a row — powerful, and very hungry for MP.
2. North-west of the Faerie Village: warp there and cross the water to the north-west. The three items in the middle are 7,244 gold, a Mini Medal and Slippery Sap.
3. South-east of Damdara: warp to Damdara and cross the bridge south-east as if heading for Weeping Isle. Right after it, go north and then west into the forest.
   1. A pouch hangs in the middle; it holds a Mini Medal.
   2. On the left, a barrel to the north has a Pot Lid, and the rocks south of it hide the Yggdrasil Dress Coat: almost as much defence as Erdrick’s Armour, and it blocks confusion, spell sealing and MP drain.
4. North-east of Rimuldar: warp to Rimuldar and cross to the desert on the other side of the mountain to the north-east. The new spot is in its south-east part: the Sword of Ruin and a Seed of Strength. The sword is cursed; don’t equip it.

The Monarch and the rainbow bridge

1. You should now have 39 Mini Medals. Hand them in at the Citadel: the Meditation Scroll (35) heals you a great deal and is worth using in the final fights; the Metal Wing Boomerang (37) is your strongest weapon so far and can actually hurt metal slimes; and the War Drum (39) rounds it off.
2. Warp to Rimuldar and follow the marker north-west to the shore. Use the Rainbow Drop there: a rainbow bridge appears.
3. Cross it and follow the valleys. A sparkle in the poison marsh has two Frazzled Feathers and a Hextract. At the end stands the Dragonlord’s Castle.
