    Mini Medals are Dragon Quest’s classic collectible. Each one you hand to the Monarch of Medals counts towards a running total, and new rewards unlock at set totals — you never spend them. The boxes to tick are in each chapter’s checklist; this page lists all 40 in one place so you can see what’s left.

    Trading them in

    1. The Citadel of the Monarch of Medals stands south-south-east of the Field of Flowers, round the side of a mountain. You first reach it in Chapter 11. Go upstairs and talk to the Monarch; the bookshelf in the south room lists the rewards.

    1. Following this guide, your totals at each visit are:
      1. 21 on the first visit (Chapter 11): everything up to the Banishing Bell.
      2. 31 after the Ultimate Key tour (Chapter 14): the Scourge Whip and Saviour’s Staff.
      3. 39 before the final castle (Chapter 18): Meditation, the Metal Wing Boomerang and the War Drum.
      4. 40 with the last medal from the castle itself (Chapter 19): the Gringham Whip.
