The Shrine of the Spirit stands alone in the poison swamp south of Cantlin. At its top waits Armageddon, a long, awkward fight because it keeps bouncing your attacks back and regenerating. Beat it and you have the third item for the Sage of Rainbows in the Sanctum, a building you could have walked into ages ago but had no reason to. He turns the three into the Rainbow Drop.

The Shrine of the Spirit

  1. Warp to the Wayfarer’s Inn and walk east-south-east to the shrine in the middle of the swamp.
  1. A short scene plays as you enter. Before going up, examine the rubble on the left side of the ground floor for a Mini Medal.
  2. Fill your HP and MP — you’ll want every point of MP — then go upstairs and approach the portal.

Boss: Armageddon

MoveWhat it doesHow to handle it
AttackOne or two hits of about 45.Not a big threat on its own.
Sword DanceFour or five hits of 45–50.This is why Dodgy Dance should never lapse.
HelmsplitterAbout 50 damage and lowers your defence.Heal a little earlier afterwards.
Thick fogStops spells, including your heals.Keep healing items handy.
BounceReflects your physical attacks for a turn.Watch for it, and use that turn to heal or buff.
RegenerationHeals about 75 HP every turn. You need steady damage to outpace it.
  1. Keep Dodgy Dance running from start to finish. Attack with Flame Slash (around 150 per hit); Undead Undoer does about the same but costs more MP.
  1. The longer the fight goes, the more often Armageddon casts Bounce. When it’s up, hitting it hurts you instead, so spend that turn healing or recasting Dodgy Dance.
  1. During the fight you’ll sometimes receive a blessing that gives you regeneration and extra defence — at random, or from Gwaelin if she’s with you. Make the most of those turns.
  2. Afterwards the shrine’s amulet is yours. The Faeries reach you from the Shrine of Rain, and the scenes end with the Mark of Erdrick in your bag.

Around the Sanctum

  1. Warp to the Cave of the Dwarves and cast Evac to get outside. Head south-west and cross the bridge, then go south until you reach barren land beside a mountain range.
  2. Follow the mountains’ west side south for a sparkle with a Seed of Life and a Strong Medicine.
  3. At the very south of this landmass, a sparkle sits in a poison swamp: Frazzled Feathers, a Hapless Helm and the Staff of Divine Wrath.
  4. From that sparkle, follow the path north-east to a hidden Secret Spot:
    1. A pot on the right has an Agility Gilet — lots of agility, little defence.
    2. West-north-west of it, examine the ground for a Banishing Bell.
  5. Then head back south and in to the Sanctum, the building among the trees to the north.

The Sanctum

  1. Before anything else, walk behind the waterfall and examine the big stained glass on the north wall: a Mini Medal.
  2. Talk to the Sage of Rainbows. He recognises the Mark of Erdrick, takes the Sunstone and the Staff of Rain, and makes the Rainbow Drop — the way across to the Dragonlord’s island.
  1. You could head straight for the castle now, but a few things are worth doing first. They’re in the next chapter.
