Kol is easy to rush through, but it holds two Mini Medals and the Faerie Flute, one of the items you’ll need near the end of the game. From Kol, a long forest path leads to the Shrine of Rain, where the Sage of Rain tells you what he wants in exchange for his staff. After that you report to the king, and the hunt for the three keys begins.

Kol

  1. From the entrance, go left and north past the horse; the pot behind it has an Unsealant. The priest to the west lets you save.
  2. Continue west to the large item shop:
    1. A barrel by the planter past the tables: 47 gold.
    2. Upstairs, right side: a pot with a Mini Medal.
    3. The left side of the upper floor is a smithy. Everything is expensive; the Spiked Steel Whip costs 4,400 gold, more than you’re likely to have.
  3. Leave and go north up the stairs to a poison puddle. The pot on the right of the shop there has another Mini Medal. The shopkeeper drops a hint about a boss your weapon can’t hurt — you’ll understand much later.
  4. Head back south to the hot spring on the right:
    1. The woman inside offers a “puff-puff” for 20 gold, a long-running Dragon Quest joke.
    2. The top-right pot has Boxer Shorts.
    3. Just south of the building, the Faerie Flute is lying on the ground. Take it — it’s needed late in the game.
  1. The inn is to the right of the hot spring, with 115 gold in the barrel outside.
  2. South of the inn there’s a well. Climb down: the man there advises defending when an enemy is about to unleash a strong attack. His chest is locked; it opens with the Magic Key in Chapter 9.
  3. The equipment shop is to the east, with Musk in a barrel on its left side. The Fur Hood is a reasonable buy; the Iron Armour is good but pricey.

The forest path to the Shrine of Rain

  1. Leave Kol and walk back south-west to the fork you passed on the way in. This time take the forest path west.
  2. The objective marker is to the north. Along the long, narrow forest you pass a sparkle on your left with two Dazzle-Me-Nots.
  3. Where the forest opens out, check its west side before turning east: a sparkle with Leather Armour, a Scale Shield and 227 gold.
  4. East from there stands a tall tower: the Shrine of Rain.

The Shrine of Rain

  1. Go north into the shrine and walk up to the marker on the upper left. The Sage of Rain will trade you his Staff of Rain — but only for the Lyre of Ire, which you don’t have.
  2. The scenes carry on overnight: in a dream, the goddess tells you about Rubiss and the Spirit of the Land.
  3. When you’re back in control, sweep the floor:
    1. North up the stairs from the sage, then right. Follow the hallway east and south to a lone chest with the Crack Scroll.
    2. Back at the stairs, go west. Two pots on the north side: a Mini Medal and a Chimaera Wing.
    3. Go south into the large room and examine the middle of it for a hidden Prayer Ring.
  4. The upper floors are behind a gate you can’t open yet. You’ll climb them in Chapter 16.

Report to the king

  1. Warp to Tantegel and go up to the throne room. A long set of scenes explains what happened to Princess Gwaelin and introduces the three keys. The first, the Thief’s Key, is said to be in Galenholm — a town you’ve already searched. That’s the next chapter.
