Graveyard Keeper 2 has hundreds of recipes, but the story only leans on a few chains: wood, bronze, Melted Fat, bricks and stone, iron, a set of kits, and paper and ink. This page lays them out in the order the route reaches them, and starts with the farming you need in Phase 1.

How a recipe unlocks

  1. Five things have to line up before you can make anything:
    1. Research — red, green or blue points buy the technology that unlocks the recipe or the station. A few technologies also check a character’s reputation (see reputation).
    2. The station, placed from a building desk (Yard, Garden, Alchemy Lab, Writing Room…).
    3. An extension, when the recipe names one — the Tool Rack for most kits, the Hardening Bucket on an anvil for tools and Iron Kits.
    4. Mastery in the right skill (Building, Smithing, Farming, Anatomy, Book writing). Tools in your tool belt add to it.
    5. The tool the job asks for: by hand, Hammer, Axe, Shovel…

Farming basics (Phase 1)

  1. Herm wants 5 Wheat, and wheat takes days to grow — that’s why the route plants it first.
  2. Setting up:
    1. Research Gardening (5 green) and place a Garden Bed from the Garden building desk. It costs no materials; finishing it needs a shovel and Farming mastery 2.
    2. Buy Wheat seed from Herm. Seeds are sold and planted in groups of four.
    3. Plant, then let it grow. Harvest when the bed shows it’s ready; each harvest also gives 2 Leaves.
SeedPlotMastery to plant safelyPerfect harvest from 4 seeds
Wheat seedGarden bed26 Wheat + 6 seeds
Carrot seedGarden bed46 Carrots + 6 seeds
Flax SeedGarden bed56 Flax + 6 seeds
Beet SeedGarden bed66 Beets + 6 seeds
  1. You can plant below the listed mastery, but each planting step may fail. If all four fail, a wheat bed still gives about 4 Wheat and 4 seeds — enough for Herm, just slower to build a stock.
  2. Fertilizer, once you want more:
    1. Fertilizers I (10 green) unlocks the Compost Pile (Board x2, Stick x12): 8 Leaves → 2 Peat (Farming 1).
    2. Crop Boosting Fertilizer I: Peat x2 + Dream Dust x1 at the Formulation Bench (Anatomy 2). Applied before planting, it lifts a perfect wheat harvest to 7 + 7.

  1. Clay is dug with a shovel south of the graveyard (Building 2). Piece of stone: Stone x2 + Wood wedge x4 → Piece of stone x4 at the Stonemason’s Workbench, Building 3 (The Concept of Stone). Polished Stone comes from the Stone Polishing research (20 red, 5 green): Piece of stone x4 + Melted Fat x1 + Sand x2 → Polished Stone x4 at the Stonemason’s Workbench with a Tool Rack, Building 5. The Builder shop sells both once you have it.

  1. Iron Ore: the Trademaster on the Main Pier sells 10 at a time, and so do the Bishop and Harold later. You can also mine iron rocks (Pickaxe, mastery 3, 3 ore per stage): one southeast and one southwest of the graveyard, plus several around the forest bandit camp and the quarry.
  2. The research path is Bronze Polishing → Iron Forge (35 red) → Iron Smithing (50 red) → Iron Works (75 red). The Tool Rack (35 red) sits alongside it and is needed by almost every kit.

Kits

  1. Kits are what the story hands in most often. Here is every one the route asks for, and who wants it.
