After the tavern you have four open requests — Herm’s Wheat, the twins and their fishing rod, Herbert’s graveyard and Jully’s fairy lead — and Jack soon adds a fifth. None of them blocks the others, but they share materials and timers. Plant first, build a small workshop, then fill the waiting time.
Checklist
| Quest | Who | What it takes |
|---|---|---|
| Planted and Delivered | Herm | 5 harvested Wheat, handed over as free samples. |
| Two Peas in a Pod | Heffry and Jeffry | 6 Clay Plates to replace the sunk pottery. |
| Grave Expectations | Herbert | Graveyard quality 10. |
| The Quiet Art | Herm | 1 Roach and 1 Gudgeon, caught with the twins’ rod. |
| Jack in a Boat | Jack | 5 Wooden Planks, 5 Bronze Details and two willing rowers. |
| Good Fellow | Januarius and Jully | 10 village reputation to hear about fairies. |
1. Plant Wheat for Herm
- Buy Wheat seed from Herm. He needs 5 Wheat, not 5 seeds; the journal’s suggestion of 16–20 seeds simply covers four or five plantings of four seeds each.
- Go back to the garden at your base (let Larry’s explanation run). The broken bridge to the vineyard is irrelevant: Wheat grows in ordinary garden beds.
- Research Gardening (5 green) and place a Garden Bed from the garden building desk. It costs nothing, but digging it needs a shovel and Farming mastery 2.
- Getting to Farming mastery 2:
- Equip the Rusty Shovel from the graveyard chest: it supplies one point while it sits in your tool belt.
- For the second point, pick mushrooms and berries until you complete the inspirations Mushroom Hunter I and Berry Seeker I. Claim both rewards (they cost no Faith) to earn your first talent point.
- Put that point into Farming mastery (the first step of it, not some other perk), then go back and finish the bed.
- Plant Wheat seed in the finished bed (4 seeds per planting) and complete the planting work. Plant more beds if you have the seeds. No fertilizer or zombie gardener is needed. Details: Farming in the early crafting page.
2. Set up a basic workshop
- Building mastery 2 is the bar for nearly every structure here. The first Lumberjack and Woodcutter inspiration rewards are free (no Faith), and buying the Building mastery increases costs no red points. Tool-belt bonuses add on top: a Rusty Axe gives +1, a Bronze Axe +2.
- Break debris with the axe for free Boards, Bronze Nails, Bronze Scrap and Stone. There is debris north, northwest, southeast and southwest of the garden, north and northeast of the yard, and inside the morgue. Fell trees for Logs and collect Sticks.
| Station | Research | Place it with | What it makes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sawhorse | The Concept of Wood (2 red, 2 green) | Board x2, Stick x4 — Hammer, Building 2 | 1 Log → 4 Boards, or 1 Log → 2 Short Logs |
| Wooden Anvil | Bronze Works (5 red) | Short Log x1, Stone x1 — Hammer, Building 2 | 1 Bronze Scrap → 6 Bronze Nails (Smithing 1) |
| Woodworking Workbench I | Woodworking I (10 red) | Board x8, Bronze Nails x4 — Hammer, Building 2 | 1 Board → 1 Wooden Plank (Building 2), plus grave signs, crosses and fences |
- All three go on the Yard building desk. Full chain: Early crafting.
3. The twins’ pottery (Two Peas in a Pod)
- Cross the bridge south into Twins’ Land. Jack may show up depending on whether you’ve slept — let any scene play. Talk to Heffry about the rod, then find Jeffry further south near the Hangman’s House (wait until he stops walking).
- The brothers sank a boat carrying pottery for Herm. Agree to replace it: 6 Clay Plates. Unfired plates are fine — no Clay Urns, no kiln.
- Research The Concept of Stone, then Pottery I (10 red, 5 green). Place a Potter’s Wheel in the yard: Wooden Plank x2, Piece of stone x1, Hammer, Building 2.
- Making Piece of stone (no early shop sells it — only the Town’s Builder, much later):
- The Concept of Stone also gives the yard Stonemason’s Workbench (Wooden Plank x2, Bronze Nails x2, Hammer, Building 2).
- There, Stone x2 + Wood wedge x4 → Piece of stone x4 (Building 3). Mine Stone from rock formations with the pickaxe — two are in the Garden.
- Wood wedges come from a yard Chopping Spot (research Chopping, 8 red; Short Log x2, Hammer, Building 2): Short Log x1 → Wood wedge x10 with the Axe, Building 3. The same spot makes your Firewood later in this phase.
- Dig Clay with a shovel — there is a deposit south of the graveyard. The deposit checks Building mastery 2, not Farming.
- One craft turns 2 Clay into 3 Clay Plates (Building 2). Two batches, four Clay. Don’t fire or sell them.
- Back in Twins’ Land, choose Give pottery. You get the Basic Rod, 5 village reputation, a Story and Town Gratitude. Keep the rod.
4. A nicer graveyard (Grave Expectations)
- Herbert checks the graveyard total, nothing else. Each grave’s decorations add quality, but the body inside limits it: red skulls subtract, and the number of white skulls caps what that grave can contribute.
- Your two spare Wooden Signs give 1 each. Research Wooden Gravestones I (5 red, 2 green) for the Wooden Cross I (2 quality) and Wooden Fence I (1 quality), each made from Wooden Plank x2 + Bronze Nails x2 at the workbench (Building 2).
- A sign and a cross share the headstone slot — replace the sign rather than expecting both to count. A cross plus a fence gives 3, but only if the body has at least three white skulls and no red ones.
- Upgrade graves that still have headroom and bury new deliveries. There is no fixed number of graves; watch the total. Once it shows 10, tell Herbert The graveyard is looking better, then Encourage the man....
5. Harvest, samples and fishing
- Harvest when ready and keep 5 Wheat; yields vary, so replant if you come up short. At Herm’s, choose Give free samples — selling them doesn’t count.
- Herm’s store goes up a tier and you receive 5 village reputation, Farmer’s Clothes, a Story, Town Gratitude and the Vegetable dishes unlock.
- For The Quiet Art, equip the Basic Rod and fish without bait at the spot west of your garden: one Roach (day or night) and one Gudgeon (prefers daytime). Give both to Herm for 2 Town Gratitude, a Story and River Fish dishes.
6. Jack’s boat (Jack in a Boat)
- After meeting Herm, sleep at home: Jack visits and offers to build the boat if you supply materials. Find him on the beach across the bridge in Twins’ Land.
- Hand over 5 Wooden Planks (Give materials). He then wants metal parts and someone to row.
- Making Bronze Details — the item Jack calls “tools”:
- Research Bronze Melting (10 red) for Furnace I (Piece of stone x6, Brick x12) and the yard Firewood shed (Stick x10, Bronze Nails x2).
- Bricks need Brick Making (15 red, 5 green) and a Kiln (Piece of stone x4, Clay x5, Water x5). One batch is Clay x4 + Fuel x20 → 6 Bricks and needs Building 3.
- Firewood comes from the same Chopping Spot: Short Log x1 or Stick x20 → Firewood x10 with the Axe, Building 2.
- Fuel is stored in the shed: 2 Firewood → 20 Fuel. Smelt 3 Bronze Scrap + 10 Fuel → 2 Bronze Ingots in the furnace.
- Attach a Hardening Bucket to your anvil (a later Bronze Works tier, 30 red; Wooden Plank x4, Bronze Nails x8). Then 1 Bronze Ingot → 6 Bronze Details (Smithing 2, Hammer).
- Deliver five with Here’s your tools. — you also get Blacksmith’s Clothes.
- Ask the twins to row (Ask them to row). They want 10 village reputation, which you have after the Wheat and the plates. Then tell Jack So you’re to set sail?: 20 Jack reputation.
- Head home and sleep two nights. The twins come back without Jack: he stayed at the port and sent the Nun in his place. Choose Read the letter: it teaches the Magic bell recipe and awards A Man of Many Talents.
7. Jully, fairies and your basement
- Once you have 10 village reputation, get Januarius to summon Jully again and ask about fairies (Good Fellow).
- At home, Larry points out a hatch. Open the hatch with 1 Bronze Detail + 2 Boards (by hand, Building 2). Below is the Writing Room and its building desk — you’ll need it for paper and ink later.
