Fishing in Sea of Stars is a small mini-game at docks scattered across the world, and the fish you land double as cooking ingredients. There are 23 species, none of them missable, so you can ignore fishing for most of the game and sweep everything at the end. Once Mirth has its Fishing Hut, the fisherman there rewards you for the number of species you’ve caught, up to a Flimsy Hammer for all 23.

How fishing works
- Interact with the dock to start. Press the button once to cast — you can steer left or right while the line flies — and again to sink the lure. Drop it close to a fish’s shadow and you’ll get a bite.
- Once a fish bites, use the stick to keep it inside the lighter blue band of current, and hold the button to reel while it’s there.
- When a fish leaps out of the water, press the button while it’s in the air to stun it for a moment. It makes the jumpy ones much easier.
The fishing spots
| Spot | Where | Fish | New species |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunglow Lake | The first lake you reach, near Mooncradle (Chapter 2) | Man o’ War, Lunar Trout | 2 |
| Windy Loch | Outside the Moorlands (Chapter 3) | Hardshell, Grass Haddock, Lunar Trout | 2 |
| Lavish Lake | A short way north of Brisk (Chapter 5) | Hardshell, Man o’ War, Grass Haddock | 0 |
| Haunted Creek | North of Lucent (Chapter 7) | Spectral Eel, Ghosturgeon, Bone Pike | 3 |
| Settler’s Rest | Outside Mirth (Chapter 12) | Crimson Bass, Hardshell, Seakjaw, Grass Haddock | 2 |
| Watcher’s Pond | North of Lake Docarria (Chapter 13) | Fluorescent Piranha, Crimson Bass, Sun Carp, Viridian Lobster | 3 |
| Sulfuric Basin | Outside the Kiln volcano, on the northern island (Chapter 16) | Rock Shrimp, Lava Koi | 2 |
| Lake Turquoise | Mesa Island, between Autumn Hills and Songshroom Marsh (Chapter 17) | Clockwork Crab, Fluorescent Piranha, Swordfish, Ninja Starfish | 3 |
| Skybound Lagoon | The Sky Islands (Chapter 19) | Sky Urchin, Cloud Skate, Ninja Starfish | 2 |
| Cerulean Reservoir | Next to Repine, Serai’s village (Chapter 21) | Laser Burbot, Coil Flounder, Cybernardl Hermite, Silicium Sponge | 4 |
- Taking the spots in story order, you’ll have 12 species after Watcher’s Pond, 14 after Sulfuric Basin, 17 after Lake Turquoise and all 23 after Cerulean Reservoir.
- Most spots from Settler’s Rest onwards are fishing only: no merchant and no plants to harvest.
- The Sulfuric Basin is open before the story sends you to its island, so you can drop by early.
- At the Cerulean Reservoir, a chest at the far north, beyond the water, holds a Data Strip.
The Fishing Hut in Mirth
- Mirth gets a Fishing Hut once you give Jirard the Fishing Hut Plans (a Rainbow Conch reward) and send the Master Fisherman over from Mooncradle’s pub. Talk to him with a few species caught to claim rewards.
| Species caught | Reward |
|---|---|
| 12 | Stereofilament Line and Mithreel Rod |
| 14 | Bearing Reel |
| 23 | Flimsy Hammer |
- The Flimsy Hammer is one of four needed for a hidden room — see the side quests page.
Stillpond Island
- Stillpond Island also has a fishing pond, but its real catch — a golden fish and a huge one in a hidden cave — belongs to the true ending route and needs the Hook of Time.
