The Rail Forest is the longest stretch of the DLC so far. A broken railway runs through it, and most of the puzzles are about putting the missing pieces back: knocking rails into place, pushing blocks into gaps and switching tracks. It hides a Time Rune, a combo skill and plenty of gear, and it ends with a fight against a runaway train. Afterwards the real train line opens and a pipe puzzle on the way to the next area gives a second Time Rune.

Fixing the first rails

  1. Walk north to the campfire. Take the Milk, save, and press the purple button to open the way west.
  2. Go west, hop up onto the rails and ride them north until they run out. Step off, take the Sugar and drop down the ledge to the south.
  3. Follow that path as it bends right and up a ladder. From the very top, jump down onto the loose piece of rail: it falls into place and the line is whole again.
  4. Ride on to the northwest until you have to get off once more. To the right there’s Butter and, right next to it, a chest with Cogwheel Plating.
  5. Beat the enemies to the south and pick up the two Corns past them. Before climbing the wall to the north, open the chest with Caramel Corn x2.

The hidden cave: Time Rune III

  1. Climb the wall, grapple over the gap and keep going up. After the climbing wall you can see a chest down to the bottom left.
  2. To reach it, take the thin path left around the side of the mountain. It leads into a hidden room. Inside, go south to the chest with the Green Plume.
  3. Back inside, before touching the machine in the middle, climb the stairs to the north for Corn and Milk.
  4. The machine is a dial puzzle. Use the console to turn the three rings until their parts form one complete emblem, a large triangle, in the centre. Getting the middle ring right first and then working outwards makes it much easier.
  1. Climb the stairs for the reward: Time Rune III.

The block cliffs

  1. Out of the hidden cave, turn east. There’s Milk at the far eastern end, so grab it before you head north.
  2. Cross the stepping stones north into a fight with Coilemurs, then open the chest on the right: Riser’s Wraps, which go on Valere.
  1. Drop off the ledge to the south onto more rails. South only leads back to an earlier part of the forest, so go north and get off on the left.
  2. Climb the wall, shimmy along it, drop down and climb the ladder. At the top, go left for a chest with Performer’s Finery.
  3. There are two pairs of blocks up here. One block from each pair has to drop off the cliff and slot into a gap in the rails below.
  4. The left pair:
    1. Shove each block north and then right.
    2. Next the left one goes down then left, and the right one left then down, which clears it out of the way.
    3. Now push the first block right and down, over the edge.
    4. Jump after it and push it south into the gap.
  5. The right pair (easier):
    1. Shove each block north and then left.
    2. Push one down, follow it and push it south into place. The rail is now complete.

Under the cliffs and up to the switches

  1. Get on the rail and ride west. It runs underneath the block area; you can see your party through cracks in the floor above.
  2. When you reach the fork, don’t go north yet. Follow the cracks in the ground to the right to find a hidden Third Wind.
  3. Go back to the fork and head north. Grapple over the pit on the right, walk round the cliff and climb up to a group of enemies.
  4. Once they’re beaten, head west: there’s Sugar, and a Jawbreaker tucked in the north corner. Then go up the ledge to the north to a chest with Ice Cream x2.
  5. Take the path west, drop onto the rails and ride north to the next broken section. Step off, go down the ladder, then right and up the ledges.
  6. There’s a switch on the west side here; leave it for now. Take the Corn to the east, then hop off the southern ledge, where the combo skill Heap Frog is lying.

Switching the tracks

  1. Climb back and go north to a switch in the ground. Pressing it moves something down in the hole below.
  2. Walk over the rail and win the fight waiting across it.
  3. Then:
    1. The lever to the east drops the rail, and the purple button to the west makes a grapple point pop up. Use both.
    2. Grapple across to the two floor switches. Step on the left one to clear away the old piece of track, then on the right one to bring the new piece out.
    3. Go back to the lever and pull it again to lift the rail back up. Grapple onto it and follow the new line northeast.
  1. Where it ends there’s Butter in a cup to the east. Then climb the ledges to the west into a fight; the chest beside it holds the Spinner’s Bracelet.

The rail-switching machine

  1. Enter the clock machine and climb the ladder. Above you are three blocks that all have to be pushed left.
  2. Below them run three rails. Two movable blocks sit on them, one with a green light and one with an orange light. Each colour has its own floor switch that moves its block up or down. A third, horizontal switch moves the lights between the blocks and the platforms on the right, so you can make the orange or green platform appear or disappear.
  3. The order that works:
    1. Lower the orange block to the middle rail, then climb up and shove the top block west.
    2. Drop down and move the orange block back up.
    3. Use the horizontal switch so the orange platform disappears and the green one appears. Go up and push the middle block left.
    4. Raise the green block to the middle rail and flip the horizontal switch so the green platform vanishes. Climb up and shove the bottom block west.
  4. That finishes the railway outside. Leave the machine and ride the rail north. At its end, get off and walk up to the campfire. Save, and open the chest for Barbapapa x2.
  5. When you’re ready, go north and jump down. A scene plays, and the boss fight starts straight after.

Boss: Crazy Train

MoveWhat it doesHow to handle it
The PassengerGrabs one character and shuts them in the carriage at the back.Attack the spot where they’re held to get them out.
SwipeFollows up if the captive is still inside, hitting the rest of the party for about 12.Free the captive before it comes.
Curtain CallIf the captive still isn’t free, the train throws them out knocked out. This is what you must avoid: always free them first.
ChargeRams one character for about 10.Block it.
CoalslayFires coal from the chimney that hits random party members several times.Block each piece as it lands.
  1. The whole fight is a chase: the party battles while running away from the train. Normally its weaknesses are purple (laser) and blue. While it holds someone, its weakness changes to laser, which suits Artificer.
  1. There’s only one trick to it: whenever it grabs someone, stop everything else and hit the carriage until they’re out. The rest is ordinary attacking and blocking.
  2. After the scenes you get Music Sheet #10. The purple device on the left takes you back to the forest entrance; walk out to the world map.

The train and the pipe puzzle

  1. Go back to Horloge for another scene. Then head for the town exit to the north: in the station lobby, the bars in the upper right are now down.
  2. Walk through and talk to Fardush to ride the train to the Ivory Towers.
  3. Before going into the towers, stop at the pipe puzzle on the world map. It’s a 3×3 grid of sliding tiles, and the goal is to join the pipe from the upper left to the upper right.
