The Ivory Towers are a big puzzle dungeon. The main gate in the middle stays shut until you reach the top of four towers and switch on the device hidden in each one. Early on you get the Mule Drone, which lets you lift certain floor tiles, rails and grapple points and set them down somewhere else; almost every puzzle from here to the end of the DLC uses it. The reward at the top is a fight with the Narcis King, a boss built around mirrors and a spotlight.

Narcis KingAt the very top, through the main gate once all four towers are done.

The way in

  1. After the opening scene, pick up the Sugar on the left. Climb the tower to the right, grapple left, climb again, then go right and grapple once more. Drop down and beat the two enemies that jump you.
  2. Collect the Corn in the top-right corner, then take the southern stairs down to a button that opens a shortcut to the entrance.
  3. Next, scale the vines on the building’s western wall, opening the Metamaterial Lens chest along the way.
  1. From the top, head east and descend the second set of vines: there’s Milk and the Recipe: Barbapapa chest down there.
  2. Climb back up and drop through the middle of the platform: that opens a gate. Go through and drop again to open the gate below, then enter the building ahead.
  3. Inside are a campfire, some Milk on the left and a save point. The puzzles start to the north.

The Mule Drone

  1. Head north: the floor collapses behind you. Keep going up the stairs and the huge door ahead slams shut. That main gate is your real goal; opening it takes the rest of the chapter.
  2. A path has opened on the left. Enter the cave there, use the upper-right platform to jump across to the right-hand side, and follow the red carpet northeast into the next room.
  3. The walkway breaks under you here too. Search the pile of scrap: after a short scene you gain the Mule Drone.
  1. Try it straight away: lift the glowing floor tile and drop it on the marked spot to the south to patch the hole.
  2. Back in the main room, the rail piece:
    1. Use the rail piece to bridge the gap and cross.
    2. Pick it up again, climb the wall to the north and set it down there. Cross once more.
    3. Lift it once more and carry it northwest along the path to its final marked spot.
    4. Drop down and ride the mine cart. It only takes you back to the start of the area, but it opens the next part up.
  3. Before moving on, jump onto the rail beside the little one you just rode and follow it to a chest with Barbapapa x2.

First tower: the southwest building

  1. With the Mule Drone, lift the floor tile to the south and set it down to the left. Follow that path west, clear the enemies, then go south: there’s a chest with Ice Cream x2 just before the building.
  2. Inside, after a scene, a large picture on the wall is missing eight pieces. They’re scattered on the floor below. Carry each one to its place with the Mule Drone, riding the vents to reach the higher spots.
  1. Go through the door that opens and fight the enemies at the top. A floor tile lights up when the fight ends.
  2. Lift it, and before anything else, drop into the hole it leaves and go northeast to pick up the combo skill Jugglecore.
  3. Back up top:
    1. Set the tile down on the left to reach a button; pressing it brings out a grapple point.
    2. Pick the tile up again and lay it on the right. Pull the lever there: one floor sinks and another rises.
    3. Grapple back to the middle, lift the tile and put it down to the southeast. Now you can leave the room and the building.
  4. Outside, climb the vines and enter the room at the top. It holds a clock machine: go inside and use the dagger-shaped device at the back. That’s the first of the four keys to the main gate, and it also switches on the path to the next tower.

Second tower: statues and mirrors

  1. Leave the machine and the building, kick down the ladder, climb down and walk north to the next building. Win the fight outside, take the Butter to the north and the Corn to the left, then go in.
  2. After the scene, look at the three blocks in the middle: each carries part of a statue. The lever sinks them into the floor and brings them back up. Stack them in the right order to rebuild it.
  3. Building the statue:
    1. Up the eastern vines, pull the lever at the top and shove that block down, then left.
    2. Drop down, climb the left vines and push that block down and right, so it falls into the middle.
    3. Back on the floor, head north and hit the button that lifts the platform to the top. Shove the final block left, then south.
    4. Drop down and pull the lever on the ground floor. The finished statue appears.
  1. Climb the left vines and enter the room to the north. There’s someone to talk to if you like; then go up and beat the enemies.
  2. At the top, a mirror reflects a device on the floor. The device has five buttons: four directions and one in the centre. Press the buttons that show in the mirror’s reflection. The first one only needs the centre button.
  3. When you get it right, the device vanishes and leaves a pink object on the floor. Picking it up removes the mirror and raises a red wall in its place.
  4. Solve the other three mirrors the same way and the door at the top opens. Go through to the top of the tower. Before stepping into the clock machine, open the chest for Runebound Plating.
  5. Inside, use the dagger device again: two keys out of four.
  1. Then drop down and follow the light path to the right, towards the third tower.

Third tower: the shop, the paintings and the doors

  1. Win the fight where you land and take the Butter to the north. Before going in, walk round to the right side of the building and climb the vines to a chest with the Glass Cannon.
  2. Inside is a save point and, on the right, a shop. Its best buy is the Recipe: Caramel Corn. Money is tight at this point, so sell spare gear if you need to.
  3. On the north wall hang four paintings of Zale. Hitting them in the right order opens the door on the right. The clue is the row of tool icons below the fountain, each of which matches one painting. The brush, for example, goes with the painting of Zale at work on a canvas.
  1. Take the Sugar to the south before leaving the room. In the next room there’s a chest with Daredevil’s Raiment on the right.
  2. Next comes a three-floor puzzle. Going through the small doors moves a yellow spot of light around the floor, and the large main door only takes you up once the light sits underneath it.
FloorDoors to use, numbered left to right
First1, 2
Second1, 4
Third3, 5, 4, 1
  1. After the third floor, carry on to the clock machine. This time the inside is a fight, not a puzzle. Win it and use the dagger device: three keys down.

Time Rune V and the fourth tower

  1. Leave, climb down the ladder and take the light bridge south. Defeat the enemies there, pick up the Corn to the south and lower the ladder to its left. It leads down to another clock machine.
  2. Inside, a set of levers surrounds a green figure on the floor. Flip them until the whole figure is lit and no dark shadow falls across it. The reward is Time Rune V.
  1. Back outside, the fourth tower is the building to the east. Inside, pick up the Butter on the east side first.
  2. Three statues have to go onto the three squares on the north side, in a set way. Number them 1 for the one furthest back (top right), 2 for the middle one and 3 for the one nearest you (front left).
  3. Pushing the statues:
    1. Statue 1: right, then down.
    2. Statue 3: right, then up.
    3. Statue 2: up.
    4. Statue 1 again: up.
  4. Pull the lever to the north to finish it and open the door.
  5. The pit room (floor tile and grapple point):
    1. Get over the pit, pick up the grapple point and set it on the east side: that’s how you reach the Tossmaster’s Bracelet chest.
    2. Take the floor tile, come back across and lay it down: it leads to the exit, which is still locked.
    3. Move the grapple point to the right again (it brings you back to the start of the room), take the tile over the southeast gap and set it down so you can hit the first button.
    4. Carry the tile back to the central platform, put it down, and move the grapple point to the left.
    5. Lift the tile again, cross, beat the enemies and set it in the top right. Cross, drop down and climb the vines to the second button. The exit door opens.
    6. Fetch the tile one last time, place it at the central platform and walk through the door.
  6. At the top, use the dagger device in the clock machine. All four keys are in place and the main gate opens.

Through the main gate

  1. Drop down and take the light bridge left back to the start. Grab the floor tile on the left, set it down to the north and follow that path through the gate you just opened.
  2. In the next room, go up the stairs. There’s a lot of Sugar on the left. Ride the small train in the middle up to the top.
  3. There’s a campfire and a save point. Heal, save and get ready: the next little train takes you up to the Narcis King and The Puppeteer, and the boss fight follows the scene.

Boss: Narcis King

  1. Before you attack, look at the arena. Behind the king are five slots in the floor that raise mirrors, and on the right is a crank that moves a spotlight along those slots.
MoveWhat it doesHow to handle it
Normal attackHits one character for about 25.Block it.
Reverse SunballsA charged attack on the whole party, about 20 each.Break its locks, or heal right after.
Symmetry of SinHis ultimate. It charges while he stands in front of a mirror and then hits everyone several times, ending in one big hit of about 35.Keep him away from lit mirrors so it charges as rarely as possible.
  1. The king always goes to the mirror under the spotlight. Standing there, he charges his ultimate over about three turns. The charge stays stored in that mirror even if it moves, so once it has started the attack will come sooner or later.
  2. To stop him, hit the crank so the spotlight swings away from the mirror he’s next to. A helper enemy joins the fight just to turn the crank back and put the light on him again, so check the spotlight every turn.
  1. After a short scene the towers are done. Continue in DLC chapter 5.
