To save Garl, Serai takes the party to the Flooded Graveyard, where the necromancer Romaya waits. You’ll spend most of the visit on rafts and walkways, beating three Revenants to send their skulls back to a sealed door. Halfway through you get the Graplou, a grappling hook that pulls you to posts, rings and even enemies, and it opens up several earlier chests. Without Garl, healing is tighter than before, so cook well at the camps.

Behind the main doors, once all three skulls are back.
The Ferryman’s Vigil
On the world map, go east to the Ferryman’s Vigil and talk to the Ferryman, who is plainly undead. Serai takes over the conversation and uses the Coin of Undeath Accord to make him take you across.
You’re left alone in the Flooded Graveyard, with a save point at the landing.
The first islands
On the large patch of land to the left, four undead are waiting: your first fight against four enemies at once. A group heal from the combo gauge helps here.
Optional detours: swim north from the landing for some out-of-the-way mushrooms, and south-west then south from the big fight for an island with two onion plants.
North of that fight is another one. Skirt it on the right and keep going north to a Solstice Warriors room. Climb inside to a chest with the Shimmering Daggers, a weapon for Serai that deals extra damage to undead.
Go back for the fight you skipped. It introduces the Gulgul, a zombie that dances and points.
Gulgul can…
What to do
Heal any target, at any moment
Kill it early if the fight drags.
Call down spikes
Block as they touch you.
Cast Thunder
Block it like any other spell.
Waste its turn dancing, or hit its own allies
Nothing: take the free turn.
Afterwards, pick the three Bell Peppers, then go south for a potato plant. A man walking about here is the Graveyard Keeper; he warns you to leave.
The ruined main building stands close to where the Keeper walks. Clear the enemies inside, then scale its wall; up on the roof is a chest with Obsidian Ore.
Jump through the hole in the roof onto a platform below and balance along the rafters to a chest with Recipe: Hearty Stew.
Climb back out and jump into the water to the left. The Keeper turns up again; past him to the north is another fight, and two grain plants grow nearby.
Jump across to the flooded section to the north. Climb onto the raft to reach the middle: this is the hub, with a camp, a cooking spot and a save point.
Duke Aventry
Board the raft and steer it with the Mistral Bracelet. Only two destinations matter for now: the northwest corner, which has mushrooms and a Mausoleum you can’t use yet, and the north, where the story continues.
Going north, the Gravekeeper blocks your way. You learn that in an earlier life he was Duke Aventry, who seems to have owned the manor, and he attacks.
Boss: Duke Aventry
He isn’t a full boss, but he’s much tougher than a normal enemy.
Move
What it does
How to handle it
Weapon strike
His normal attack: one blow for about 35.
Watch for the brief pause before the blow, then block.
Spinning charge
Charged move: he spins and hits everyone for about 24 each.
The block window comes later than you’d expect, after the spin. Breaking the charge is often not possible.
Use Lunar Shield to soak the spin, combo heals when everyone is hurt, and single heals when one character falls behind the others.
Afterwards the Duke decides his mistress would rather have him alive than have you stopped, and lets you pass. He also has a word with Zale, who learns the combat skill Dash Strike.
Into the crypt
Rest and save at the hub. Then, before heading on past the Duke, search the water off to the right: a chest there holds a Rainbow Conch.
In the room past him, a chest in the water holds Romaya’s Hairpin.
Further north is a set fight with a Mermofwizquard, a caster with a spell that hits the whole party; take it out first.
Keep going north and ride the switch platform deeper in, to an easy fight. Soon you’re outside again: three spirits, the keys to a sealed door, scatter in different directions.
There’s a camp and save point close by. The first spirit is a Revenant: a huge HP pool and heavy single-target hits that can knock someone out, but nothing you can’t overwhelm.
Once it falls, touch its skull and it flies back to the sealed door. Fruit trees nearby have peaches and apples, and you can rest again.
The northeast cave and the Graplou
Now enter the flooded cave in the northeast (a few bones lie around inside) and hop down into the fight waiting below.
Use the switch on the right to reach a northern platform, hit the next switch and climb to a chest with the Spectral Cape, which only Serai can wear.
Kick the ladder down, head south and press the switch once more. Climb the ladder, go round to the switch platform on the south side and ride it to the lower right, where a chest on the left has Obsidian Ore.
The room on the right starts with a fight. Then take its ladder and the path beyond to a door on the north side, where a giant chest holds the Graplou: it pulls you towards enemies, posts and rings.
Step on the switches to raise posts and practise with it. This little practice path (with some berries) loops back to the room’s entrance.
Back in the room before, climb the ladder on its north side and hook yourself straight onto the pair of mages standing in the northeast corner. They’re easy; their chest has a Rainbow Conch, and berries grow beside it.
Press the switch there to make a grapple point appear. Go down and left; the path forces you north.
Send this skull back too. A wooden post appears that leads to the central area: go back, heal and save.
The western wing
From the central area, head left through the door. The Graplou is needed from the first step: hook the round ring to the north to drag a section of floor out, and reach a switch.
The switch moves some platforms. Use them to climb to a door in the northeast, where a chest holds the Osseous Staff; equip it straight away. Up and to the right is a picnic basket with a Mooncradle Fish Pie.
Hook the enemy to the north to get across, which starts a fight. Then grapple across the stumps to the left: bones on the left, a switch on the right.
The moving hook platform:
Hit the switch: it sends a platform you can hook to the left. Hook it and fight the enemies on the left.
Flip the following switch and grapple southwards; past that, a walk south and then right brings you to a pair of switches.
Cross the ropes and hit the switch on that side first, then come back for the other one. Done in that order, the platform slides past what was blocking it.
Return, latch onto the platform and clear the group standing southwest of it.
Pick the mushroom, hit the switch to the north, and leave the room by going right and south.
The platform is now on the previous screen. Go down and left and ride it over to the left side. Fight, follow the path, pick the tomatoes and continue north to a new screen.
Use the stairs to reach the very bottom, pull yourself up, and fight. The rest of this screen is more of the same: switches, platforms, grappling and fights, until you send a second platform to the previous room and can climb the wall back up.
That platform opens the north of the previous area. Heal before you go: a Revenant and three minions are waiting. Return this last skull.
Before leaving, there’s a chest to the right. Walk through the pile of bones under the green candles to reach it: Revenant Armor.
With all three skulls home, rest and save at the hub one last time and open the big northern doors.
Boss: Romaya the Necromancer
Romaya is a mage, but a sturdy one. Next to her are a Bone Pile and a Flesh Pile, which she uses to raise more enemies. Both piles can be targeted, and they also lose HP every time she uses them.
Move
What it does
How to handle it
Eyeball Throw
Her normal attack: she conjures an eyeball and throws it.
Block as it hits.
Necromancy: Bone Pile
Raises a Revenant from the bone pile.
The more dangerous pile: destroy it first.
Necromancy: Flesh Pile
Raises a Gulgul from the flesh pile.
Less of a threat, since Gulguls are unpredictable and sometimes help you.
Felfire Rain
Charged move, usually 4 turns: 30 damage to everyone when blocked, 60 when not.
Breaking it is fairly easy, but see the strategy below.
Attacks that hit every enemy are especially good here: they damage Romaya, both piles and any summons at once.
For the first one or two Felfire Rains, consider letting them land and spending those turns on the piles instead. One group heal (skill or item) undoes the damage, and without the piles she can’t summon any more.
After that, break her charges, keep everyone topped up and wear her down.
Defeating her earns an achievement and the Soul Stone you came for, followed by the Green Flame, which you need to leave.
Leaving the graveyard
On the way out, speak to the Gravekeeper: he shows you the exit. Follow it, collecting a mushroom patch and potatoes, and dive into the water for a stash with Shrimp x3.
The path comes out in the first area. Grapple along the stumps to the northeast/northwest to a room you couldn’t reach before. Hook the left and right hooks one after the other, fast, and a chest appears with the Enchanted Scarf.
Talk to the Ferryman to go back. After several scenes, the party meets the Headmaster and the tutors, who arrived a few days after you. The Headmaster asks you to speak to him when you’re ready, which leaves time for shopping and a couple of chests.
Lucent with the Graplou
Two of the Town of Lucent chests from Chapter 7 are reachable now.
The rooftop route:
On the east side of town, stand on the edge of the bridge and grapple north. Keep grappling to the northwest corner for a chest with Obsidian Ore.
From that corner, jump the gap southwards into the space under the inn’s roof, where a chest holds a Turbo Cookie.
Take the cookie to the little pirate in the northwest corner of town. He attacks you as a regular enemy; afterwards he thanks you and points you to his grave in the corner. Search it for the Shed Key.
The key opens the shed on the east side and starts the Quiz Master side quest, covered on the Side quests page. Lucent’s last chest is found during it.
When you’re ready, talk to the Headmaster to continue: Chapter 9.
